Delhi University Marks 150 Years of Vande Mataram at Ramlal Anand College

New Delhi: Marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, Ramlal Anand College, University of Delhi, organized a commemorative programme on Tuesday. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The programme was graced by College Dean Prof. Balram Pani, South Campus Director Prof. Rajni Abbi, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, and College Chairman Dr. Jigar Inamdar.
The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral tribute to Vande Mataram’s composer, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, followed by the rendition of the University anthem and Vande Mataram. Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that Vande Mataram played a historic role in awakening the collective consciousness of India. He emphasized the need for the younger generation to understand the struggles of the past 150 years and highlighted the importance of patriotism and indigenous thinking in nation-building. He also administered a pledge to students and teachers to adopt a swadeshi outlook.

College Chairman Dr. Jigar Inamdar stated that along with remembering history, it is essential to reform the present and ourselves. He said that sincerity and integrity in fulfilling responsibilities would be the true tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
Welcoming the guests, Principal Prof. Rakesh Kumar Gupta praised Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh’s leadership, noting significant reforms in the University of Delhi, including large-scale appointments, implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, and academic development. He highlighted the infrastructural and academic growth of Ramlal Anand College under this leadership.

The programme concluded with the release of the Green Campus–Clean Campus campaign report by NSS and NCC, cultural presentations, and the collective singing of the National Anthem. A large number of teachers, staff, and students attended the ceremony, reflecting the spirit and legacy of Vande Mataram.
